not much

brightlightsloudnoises:

there’s not much to say
and there’s not much that
can be put down in
a letter
but
we managed to
catch
love one night;

there weren’t
any fireplaces,
there wasn’t
wine
or snow

it was in
a normal room,
with normal
furniture,
and

normal walls

it was
an accident,
a good one,

but
now there’s just
the smell of the
cab and
the lonely voice
of the lady on his
radio

your arms, chest, and neck

brightlightsloudnoises:

somebody
broke you
way before
I reached across
the bar and
took
you
but I liked the
pattern the damage
had made
spread out like
a spider web
across a windshield
like cream
into coffee
tattooed like
forked
and
sudden
lightning
across your
arms
chest
and
neck
running down
your spine
as you press
a cure
into your
tongue
standing
on your toes
straining
up
towards the
red light
of
a
plane
or
something
cheap
and
fleeting

"

You darkness, that I come from,
I love you more than all the fires
that fence in the world,
for the fire makes
a circle of light for everyone,
and then no one outside learns of you.

But the darkness pulls in everything:
shapes and fires, animals and myself,
how easily it gathers them! —
powers and people —

and it is possible a great energy
is moving near me.

I have faith in nights.
